Death knell for low cost
medicines
The
Madras High Court on a case filed by the MNC Novartis had recently ordered
Indian companies to stop manufacturing an anti-cancer drug as it violated the
provisions of the exclusive marketing rights. Domestic manufacturers will withdraw critical but cheaper medicines as India gets ready to fulfil WTO obligations. Medicine prices in India are likely to go up soon, including at public hospitals and dispensaries. "this is the beginning of a scientific apartheid." Devinder Sharma |
