None of this is new, in 1892 tycoon Jay Gould telegraphed the new President 

"I feel... that the vast business interests of the country will be entirely safe in your hands". 

President Cleveland replied, 

"no harm shall come to any business interest as the result of administrative policy as long as I am President".

And in 1890, activist Mary Elizabeth Lease described 

"a government of Wall Street, by Wall Street, and for Wall Street."
