1948 UN declaration of Universal Human Rights. Article 23: spells out the universal right to a job with "just and favourable remuneration ensuring... an existence worthy of human dignity." Article 25: proclaims the "everyone has a right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care, necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control." Article 28: states that everyone is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this decoration can be realised." The USA affirmed this right when it became a signatory to the declaration, however it has voted against these on numerous occasions in the United Nations. |
